Porn has certainly gotten the knack of making movies that don’t look, or seem, like porn at all. Sure, there is the requisite fucking that comes with it being an adult film (especially a hardcore one), but other than that, I’d be hard pressed to call Portrait of a Call Girl just another dirty movie.
A new venture for the gonzo-happy Elegant Angel, Portrait is a plot-driven, full-length feature that follows call girl Elle (Jessie Andrews) as she navigates both life as a sex worker and the past that lead her to where she is. While we do see lots of fucking (really hot fucking, by the way- especially scene three with Manuel Ferrara) during the scenes where Elle is with a client, those actually are not the real focus of the film. There is more time spent on flashbacks to her family experiences and her internal processes about being a sex worker than anything else. Yes, some folks may find that annoying if they are coming to rub a quick one out, but I think having all of that back story actually makes the sex way hotter and the movie more interesting as a whole.
One of the components that I especially enjoyed about the plot informing the sex is that there is such a variety of interactions that Elle has with different clients. Some just want to screw, while others want “the girlfriend experience,” and others yet are more interested in creating multi-layered scenes than just getting their dicks wet. I thought that bringing out a whole mix really showed a more true-to-life understanding of what a call girl experiences. It’s the subtle details that really make a movie shine.
If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time I’ve watched Jessie Andrews on screen. I could be wrong, because honestly, this role is far different than anything she has probably played before, but I believe that I am correct that I haven’t seen her movies before. Though her acting was a little flat in affect for my tastes, Andrews totally has what it takes when it comes to the sex scenes. Holy hell is this lady a hot one in the sack! I’m not saying she is a bad actress or anything when it comes to the rest of the movie, but she definitely shines the brightest as she is giving blowjobs like they are going out of style.
As I said above, this isn’t a get-off-and-go quickie, so people in a rush might need to bypass this flick, but if you are ready to sit back, relax and get into a feature featuring fucking, then this is the one for you.
